UG AI & Data Integrity Specialist - RoW

Position Description

The Barrick RoW Team are seeking to recruit an UG AI & Data Integrity Specialist - RoW.

The UG AI & Data Integrity Specialist - RoW is responsible for supporting the governance, implementation, adoption and continuous improvement of underground mining AI, automation and data integrity solutions across the region. The role will work closely with site operational teams, regional technical function, digital technology teams and external partners to ensure data-driven systems are reliable, secure, operationally relevant and embedded into day-to-day underground mining performance management.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Actively encourage, motivate and demonstrate a culture of safety leadership.
  • In collaboration with all stakeholders, provide governance and oversight of UG AI & Data Integrity project implementation across the region.
  • Actively participate and provide operational guidance and input into the development of commercial agreements for UG AI & Data Integrity projects.
  • Complete audits on site compliance with UG AI & Data Integrity projects implementation, in line with company policies and expectations.
  • Engage in innovation and technology forums to stay at the forefront of innovation and technology in the mining industry.
  • Collaborate and assist with the integration of the UG AI & Data Integrity solutions with all stakeholders.
  • Conduct risk assessments and management of change processes to ensure the successful implementation and adoption of the UG AI & Data Integrity solutions.
  • Lead the implementation of UG AI & Data Integrity projects.
  • Establish and monitor data quality, integrity and governance standards for underground mining systems, including fleet management, dispatch, telemetry, production tracking, planning, maintenance and reporting platforms.
  • Translate operational requirements into practical AI, analytics and data solution specifications that improve safety, productivity, equipment utilisation, compliance and decision-making.
  • Partner with site teams to validate source data, resolve data gaps, improve reporting accuracy and ensure alignment between operational systems and physical underground production activities.
  • Support change management, training and user adoption activities to ensure operational teams understand, trust and consistently use AI-enabled insights and data-driven tools.
  • Develop dashboards, performance monitoring routines and exception reporting to support regional visibility of underground mining performance, system health and data integrity compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise processes, improve system integration and scale fit-for-purpose digital solutions across RoW underground operations.

Qualification Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Mining Engineering, Automation, Analytics or a related technical discipline.
  • Postgraduate studies or certification in data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data governance, project management or digital transformation will be advantageous.

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in world-class mechanised underground mining operations, with exposure to operational technology, digital mining systems, production systems or analytics environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of underground mining value drivers, including safety, development, stoping, production tracking, equipment utilisation, ventilation, maintenance and operational reporting.
  • Experience with mining technology platforms such as fleet management, dispatch, telemetry, short interval control, production accounting, maintenance systems, data historians or business intelligence tools.
  • Strong capability in data validation, data modelling, dashboard development, root cause analysis and translating complex operational data into practical business insights.
  • Working knowledge of AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, automation, database management or cloud-based analytics solutions as applied to mining or heavy industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and business intelligence tools, with experience in Power BI, SQL, Python, R or similar analytics tools considered advantageous.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, standardise processes across multiple sites and lead implementation in a culturally diverse, multi-country regional environment.
