Finance & Payroll Coordinator / Assistant Accountant

We're looking for a Finance & Payroll Coordinator / Assistant Accountant to join our friendly and supportive Finance team. This is a hands-on role that combines payroll, month-end accounting, compliance, finance administration, stakeholder support, and process coordination.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, likes working with people, and gets satisfaction from helping others while ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
About the Role
You'll work closely with employees, managers and the Finance team to support:
Australian and New Zealand payroll processes
Month-end accounting and reconciliations
Financial reporting and compliance activities
Budget preparation and coordination
Finance systems and process support
Following up outstanding information, approvals and documentation
Supporting employees and managers with finance and payroll queries
Maintaining accurate financial records and workpapers
Let's Be Honest About the Role...
A significant part of this role involves working with people.
You'll spend a lot of time:
Chasing outstanding information
Following up managers and employees
Explaining finance and payroll requirements
Helping people complete forms and processes correctly
Answering questions
Sending reminders
Following up again when the first reminder didn't work
At times, it may feel like you're a coordinator, administrator, trainer, coach and professional nag all rolled into one.
The right person will enjoy this part of the job. The wrong person will find it frustrating.
What We're Looking For
You'll likely have:
At least 2 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant, Finance Coordinator or similar role
Experience performing reconciliations accurately and independently
Strong Excel and systems skills
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
The confidence to follow people up while maintaining positive working relationships
A proactive, self-directed approach to work
The patience to support non-finance stakeholders through financial processes and requirements
Highly Desirable
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or similar (or working towards)
Diploma in Accounting or related field
Experience with Business Central, Power BI, Power Automate or similar business systems
