Join Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital as Head of Department (Speech Pathologist Level 5) and lead a dedicated team delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient services within a busy tertiary teaching hospital. This temporary full-time maternity leave backfill opportunity offers the chance to provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership while driving excellence in patient care, workforce development, service innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration. What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead a dedicated Speech Pathology team providing high-quality inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership across Speech Pathology services.
  • Support excellence in patient care through the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred services.
  • Drive workforce development, service innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with clinicians, managers and medical teams to promote best practice and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Are You the Right Fit?
The successful applicant will be an experienced and collaborative Speech Pathologist with demonstrated leadership capability, advanced clinical expertise in adult services and a passion for mentoring staff and shaping service development within a dynamic healthcare environment. You Will Bring:

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead, motivate and support a high-performing Speech Pathology team.
  • Extensive clinical expertise in acute adult Speech Pathology services, with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly developed organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex healthcare environment.
  • A genuine passion for workforce development, mentoring staff and driving service improvement and innovation.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Discipline specific tertiary qualifications as accepted by professional association.
  • Advanced skills working with adults with communication and swallowing impairments in the acute setting including instrumental assessments and tracheostomy management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in service management functions
  • Demonstrated leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of local service delivery incorporating the quality improvement process
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills (oral and written) including advocacy and negotiation skills.
