We're looking for an experienced credit professional to join our Business & Wealth Credit Risk team as Senior Manager, Commercial Credit In this pivotal leadership role, you'll combine strategic credit risk management, portfolio oversight and people leadership to help protect and grow our Target Sectors business.
What's the role?
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Target Sectors, you will lead a team of experienced credit professionals responsible for supporting the Commercial Credit portfolio. You'll play a key role in maintaining credit quality, driving sound risk decisions and ensuring alignment with Westpac's credit risk appetite and governance frameworks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Exercising senior delegated credit authority and providing expert credit decisioning across complex transactions.
- Leading and developing a high-performing credit team, fostering strong risk culture and accountability.
- Monitoring portfolio performance and identifying emerging risks, trends and opportunities.
- Driving effective credit controls, processes and policy implementation.
- Working closely with business partners and risk stakeholders to balance commercial outcomes within risk appetite.
- Providing insightful reporting, governance and escalation of key credit issues, concentrations and emerging risks.
- Influencing senior stakeholders and contributing to the ongoing development of Westpac's credit risk strategy.
What do I need?
To be successful in this role, you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in credit decisioning, credit risk, relationship management or a similar role within commercial or corporate banking.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, finance or a related discipline, with a post-graduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) highly regarded.
- A minimum of 3 years' leadership experience within financial services or a similar corporate environment, with the ability to lead, coach and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong risk management expertise, credit judgement and the ability to think strategically in a complex banking environment.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, with experience engaging senior leaders and business partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, combined with a passion for delivering customer-focused outcomes through data-driven insights.
