Large Loss Specialist
Overview
Gallagher Bassett is seeking a highly experienced Large Loss Specialist to support our Property Claims team within the General Insurance division. In this critical role, you will manage a portfolio of large loss and complex property claims, including catastrophic events, ensuring high-quality, timely and customer-focused outcomes.
You will act as a technical expert across complex claims, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to drive resolution strategies, manage risk and deliver exceptional service in often challenging circumstances.
How you'll make an impact
On a day to day basis, you will:
- Manage a portfolio of large loss and complex property claims, including catastrophic events.
- Assess coverage, indemnity, liability and costs across high-value claims.
- Review building damage reports, including structural and engineering assessments.
- Engage with loss adjusters, contractors and stakeholders to drive timely outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and quality assurance to team members and partners.
- Ensure delivery of fair, accurate and customer-focused claims outcomes.
- Identify risks, trends and opportunities within the claims portfolio.
- Develop and implement resolution strategies balancing customer, financial and legal considerations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across claims processes and supply chain.
About you

We are looking for an experienced property claims professional with deep expertise in large loss and catastrophic claims environments. You bring strong technical capability, commercial acumen and the ability to manage complex and sensitive situations with confidence and professionalism.
We’re looking for:
- Significant experience managing major and complex property claims.
- Strong understanding of insurance principles, property damage assessment and remediation.
- Experience working with loss adjusters, builders and technical experts.
- Strong negotiation and decision-making capability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering and building reports.
- Relevant qualifications such as ANZIIF, AICLA or trade background highly regarded.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing priorities.
- Resilience and empathy in managing complex and high-impact claims.
