Are you ready to begin your pharmacy career in a supportive and dynamic hospital environment? Blue Mountains Hospital is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Intern Pharmacist to join our team and undertake a comprehensive 12 month pre-registration training program.

This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required for registration as a pharmacist, while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting. As Intern Pharmacist you will assist pharmacists and support staff in the provision of pharmacy services under the supervision of registered pharmacists and play an important role in supporting the safe and effective use of medicines throughout the hospital.

Throughout the internship, you will gain valuable experience across all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice, including medication dispensing, clinical pharmacy services, drug information and education, taking best possible medication histories, preparing medication management plans, ward stock distribution, and inventory control. You will work closely with experienced pharmacists who are committed to supporting your professional development and helping you build a strong foundation for your future career.

This position provides training and exposure to a broad range of clinical areas, ensuring you develop the competencies required to practise confidently as a pharmacist within the NSW public health system. Candidates who have completed a placement or gained relevant work experience within a NSW or Australian hospital setting will be highly regarded.

What you will bring to the role

  1. The applicant will provide evidence of eligibility to undertake a period of supervised practice as a pharmacy intern according to the requirements of the Pharmacy Board of Australia and evidence of enrolment in a Pharmacy Board approved Intern Training Program prior to commencement of the internship.
  2. The applicant should be able to demonstrate a capacity to work in a team environment.
  3. The applicant should demonstrate a commitment to continuing education and training outside their regular university training.
  4. The applicant should have effective communication and time management skills. This should be demonstrated from a work environment with preference to pharmacy related activities.
  5. The applicant will demonstrate initiative and the ability to solve work related problems independently or exceed the expectations of their current employer(s).
  6. The applicant will have completed a placement or have work related experience in a hospital setting or similar.
  7. The applicant will provide detailed evidence of current university course attainment in their application.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
