Job Description
The Chief Commercial Economist is responsible for leading CoStar Australia's commercial property research, thought leadership and market commentary. Working closely with product, commercial, research and leadership teams, the role translates CoStar's proprietary commercial real estate data into clear, authoritative and actionable market insights. Supported by a team of Commercial Property Analysts, the Chief Commercial Economist is responsible for interpreting market trends, producing research and forecasts, and representing CoStar's perspective on the Australian commercial property market. As the public voice of CoStar Australia's commercial research, the role engages with clients, media, industry stakeholders and internal teams to strengthen CoStar's position as the leading source of commercial property intelligence and insights. Key Responsibilities Lead CoStar Australia's commercial property thought leadership, market commentary and economic analysis. Develop insight-led views on commercial property market performance, emerging trends and economic conditions. Produce market reports, research publications, forecasts and presentations that showcase CoStar's commercial property intelligence. Interpret complex property and economic data and translate findings into clear, practical and commercially relevant insights. Represent CoStar across media, conferences, webinars, client events and industry forums. Partner with product and commercial teams to identify opportunities to enhance CoStar's data, analytics and market intelligence offering. Provide strategic input into commercial property research priorities, analytical programmes and product development initiatives. Lead the development of market narratives that support customer engagement and brand leadership. Mentor and guide Commercial Property Analysts, ensuring analytical outputs are robust, accurate and commercially relevant. Establish and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders, clients and market participants. Monitor economic, financial and property market developments relevant to Australian commercial real estate. About You Significant experience in commercial property research, economics, market intelligence, investment analysis or a related field. Deep understanding of Australian commercial property markets across office, industrial, retail and alternative sectors. Strong knowledge of commercial property metrics including rents, vacancy, supply, demand, absorption, incentives, investment activity and capital market trends. Proven ability to interpret complex datasets and produce compelling market insights. Exceptional written, presentation and communication skills. Experience presenting to senior stakeholders, clients and external audiences. Strong commercial judgement and strategic thinking capability. Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to mentor analytical teams. Desirable Postgraduate qualifications in Economics, Property, Finance, Business or a related discipline. Experience as a Chief Economist, Commercial Economist, Head of Research, Research Director or similar senior role. Experience engaging with media and public audiences. Existing credibility and profile within the Australian commercial property industry. Experience working with large-scale commercial real estate data and analytics platforms.
