Reporting to the Microbiology Media Team Leader, theincumbent is responsible for performing routine microbiology laboratory supporttasks in Media Preparation laboratory. The role supports the accurate andtimely processing of samples by assisting with media preparation and basiclaboratory preparation activities in accordance with established quality,safety, and regulatory standards.
Prepare, dispense, and cap media, including autoclaving and sterilisation procedures.
Receive and register client samples, ensuring accurate documentation, correct labelling, and compliance with laboratory procedures and quality standards.
Receive, weigh, and prepare samples for testing.
Perform basic microbiological tasks under supervision, including printing labels from LabWare, using glass pipettes, operating balances for weighing and calculations, preparing working solutions, measuring pH, performing aseptic techniques, adding media to samples, incubating samples, and pouring plates.
Follow laboratory methods, SOPs, and safety procedures.
Contribute to laboratory quality objectives.
Maintain a clean, safe, and fit-for-purpose laboratory environment.
Use laboratory information management systems to record and track data accurately.
Assist in the setup and preparation of media preparation and other laboratory activities.
Work safely at all times in accordance with WHS and biosecurity requirements.
Perform other duties as reasonably directed.
Candidate:
Tertiary qualification in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or equivalent discipline (essential).
Hands-on experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment (desirable).
Ability to prioritise tasks to meet daily deadlines.
Quality-focused with strong attention to detail skills.
Clear written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and effectiveness in all interactions with internal teams.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Demonstrated understanding of WHS requirements within a laboratory environment.
Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and enhance internal processes.
