About the Role

Make a life-changing impact in your community. As our Carer Assessor, Recruitment & Engagement Coordinator, you will recruit, assess and support foster carers who provide safe, nurturing homes for children and young people.

Working closely with prospective carers, you'll guide them through the assessment process, facilitate training and help build a strong network of carers across the Toowoomba region. This is a work-from-home role, however you must be based in Toowoomba or the surrounding area to undertake home visits, assessments and community engagement activities.

This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity offering flexibility, autonomy and the chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete an agreed number of carer assessments each year in line with local recruitment plans.
  • Schedule and conduct home visits and meetings with prospective carers, their families and referees as part of the assessment process.
  • Recruit foster carers through community engagement activities, information sessions, advertising campaigns and local networking opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and support to prospective carers throughout the assessment journey.
  • Identify training requirements, safety concerns or placement issues and provide recommendations to the care team.
  • Encourage carers to reflect on the impact and responsibilities of the caring role within their family and support networks.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of assessment tools and practices.
  • Support onboarding and training of team members within the Carer Recruitment and Support System.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience conducting child-focused assessments within a child and family welfare setting, including carer assessments.
  • Significant casework experience within child and family services using strengths-based and culturally responsive approaches.
  • Knowledge of the CARE model of therapeutic care, or similar trauma-informed frameworks, is highly regarded.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a geographically dispersed or virtual team environment.
  • Ability to identify risk factors and areas of concern within foster care or home-based care settings.
  • Ability to identify learning and development needs for foster, kinship and other carers.
  • Sound understanding of the challenges faced by carers supporting children and young people in Out of Home Care.

Essential Criteria

  • Recognised Social Work qualification with eligibility for AASW membership, and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification with significant casework experience.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking child-focused assessments and preparing high-quality assessment reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships and have challenging conversations.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to assess prospective carers' suitability and identify areas of risk and support needs.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a virtual team environment.
  • Sound understanding of foster and kinship care, child protection, and the challenges faced by carers.
  • Current unrestricted Driver Licence and willingness to travel throughout the Toowoomba region.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client management/database systems.
