About the Project

Tetra Tech Coffey is delivering environmental and contaminated land services to support a major metals refinery closure in Northern Territory, a major component of a broader decommissioning program.


Works involve remediation tracking, contaminated materials management, validation of remediation scopes, and compliance oversight in a complex remote industrial environment

The Role

We are seeking an experienced (2 to 5 years) Contaminated Land Consultant (fieldbased) to provide on-site soil validation advice and support, sampling supervision, and contaminated materials support during remediation earthworks.


You will work daily alongside the client, providing practical, technically defensible environmental advice to support the remediation objectives and maintain compliance with the Remediation Action Plan.



Key Responsibilities

Field Delivery

  • Collect soil and surface water samples, to complete contaminated soil and surface water assessments, delineation, and validation sampling.

  • Manage and maintain health and safety on a large remediation project with significant heavy plant movements.

  • Provide field-based material advice to the remediation contractor.

  • Oversee material tracking and compliance with the remediation action plan and the remediation validation plan.

  • Manage unexpected finds and provide advice to the remediation contractor.

  • Maintain strong QA/QC and field records.

  • Undertake field pH testing

  • Work collaboratively with site teams, technical and project management teams based offsite.


Contractor Interface

  • Act as the primary site contact for client requests and advice and manage technical delivery of requests in collaboration with the subject matter expert.

  • Support daily prestarts and toolbox talks.

  • Attend regular client meetings.

  • Balance production needs with environmental compliance.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare field summaries and contribute to validation reporting.

  • Prepare material classification and other technical memorandums, based on ongoing site requirements.

  • Maintain chainofcustody and coordinate laboratories.

  • Support EMP, HSE, and regulatory compliance obligations.


About You


You'll have:

  • You'll be a qualified Environmental Scientist with 2-5 years experience in contaminated land consulting.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting soil and surface water samples, assessments, delineation, and validation sampling on brownfield/industrial sites.

  • Experience supporting civil earthworks.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

  • Current, unrestricted Australian Drivers License.

  • Ability to meet company & project medical requirements.

  • Confident working independently in remote FIFO settings.


Highly Regarded:

  • NT regulatory knowledge.

  • Largescale remediation or decommissioning experience.

  • FIFO or remote project experience.
