We're seeking an experienced Major Project Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of health, safety and risk management on a major project located approximately three hours north of Brisbane / one hour west of the Sunshine Coast.

Working a 10:4 roster, you'll be embedded within the project team, partnering with leaders, contractors and field personnel to drive a proactive safety culture and ensure the highest standards of project delivery. With the majority of your time spent in the field, you'll have a visible presence on site and play a critical role in keeping people safe while supporting the successful delivery of a high-profile project.

The Opportunity

This is an 8-month maximum term opportunity where you will step into a hands-on leadership role. You'll influence project outcomes, build strong relationships with stakeholders and help shape safety performance across a complex construction environment.

You'll be responsible for implementing and enhancing project health and safety systems, supporting project leaders in managing risk, overseeing critical safety processes and providing trusted advice to both WSP and client teams.

What You'll Do

  • Lead health and safety performance across a major project site
  • Partner with project leadership to identify, assess and manage project risks
  • Facilitate hazard identification workshops and drive risk-based decision making
  • Develop, implement and review project HSE plans, emergency response plans and safe work systems
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and field leadership activities
  • Perform plant and equipment inspections including heavy machinery and project vehicles
  • Lead site inductions, pre-starts, toolbox talks and workforce engagement initiatives
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons learned processes
  • Deliver safety training, coaching and mentoring to project personnel
  • Manage project safety reporting and client requirements
  • Monitor contractor compliance, competency verification and implementation of risk controls
  • Act as the key interface between the project team, client and health & safety stakeholders

About You

You'll be a highly capable health and safety professional with experience managing safety on large-scale construction, infrastructure, resources or industrial projects. You'll bring:

  • Significant experience in project-based health and safety leadership
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and contractor management
  • Experience working in remote, high-risk or construction environments
  • Demonstrated capability leading investigations, audits and site safety programs
  • Confidence influencing project teams, contractors and senior stakeholders
  • Cert IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum)
  • Additional qualifications in health and safety, engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded
  • Lead Auditor, ICAM Investigator or similar qualifications are advantageous
