Reporting to the Retail Financial Controller, you'll play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, providing insightful analysis, and supporting business decision-making across our Retail operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing accounting professional who looking to broaden their commercial experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. About the Role As Accountant, you'll be responsible for a broad range of financial and management accounting activities, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and supporting the delivery of accurate and timely financial information. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, contribute to month-end reporting processes, assist with budgeting and forecasting activities, and support regulatory and audit requirements. This role offers exposure to both operational and strategic finance activities, providing an opportunity to develop your commercial acumen and make a meaningful contribution to the business. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly accruals, journals and general ledger reconciliations. Manage balance sheet reconciliations, including ownership of bank reconciliations and investigation of variances. Support month-end close activities and provide operating expenditure commentary for management reporting. Prepare monthly unread revenue models and expense accruals for the gas business. Analyse financial performance and provide meaningful insights into variances against budget. Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis activities. Support internal and external audit processes. Prepare regulatory reporting and recurring financial processes. Build effective working relationships across the business and Joint Venture. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support new business opportunities. About You To be successful in this role, you'll bring: Formal accounting qualifications and studying toward or recently completed requirements for membership of CPA Australia or ICAA. Current knowledge of accounting standards. Demonstrated work experience in accounting is required, preferably in the utilities industry or a large business. Experience with computerised management accounting and financial information systems, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite. Experience in the use of Oracle Financials, EPM, TM1 and Power BI would be considered an advantage but not essential. Ability to develop business acumen, strategic planning and decision-making abilities across the business.
