The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

Inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of mental health nurses. Mental Health are seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse Educator. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated nursing professional to make a meaningful impact on workforce capability, patient care and clinical excellence across two specialised mental health settings: the Older Persons Mental Health Unit (OPMHU) and the Mental Health Triage and Assessment Centre (TAC).

As part of the NBMLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and person-centred care in partnership with patients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams. Working closely with Nursing Unit Managers and key stakeholders, you will identify learning needs and develop, implement and evaluate education programs that enhance clinical knowledge, skills, and professional practice.

In this dynamic role, you will provide clinical teaching and support to nursing staff and students through orientation programs, competency assessment, skill accreditation, and ongoing professional development activities. Your ability to foster a positive learning culture will contribute to workforce growth, staff confidence, and improved patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will also have opportunities to facilitate and deliver nursing education programs and courses across NBMLHD facilities, supporting a consistent and high standard of nursing practice throughout the district. With responsibilities spanning both the Older Persons Mental Health Unit and the Mental Health Triage and Assessment Centre, this role offers a unique chance to influence education and practice across a diverse range of mental health services.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  2. Relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications, or such education and clinical experience in Mental Health deemed appropriate by the employer.
  3. Demonstrated ability to design, deliver and evaluate high quality clinical education, including informal teaching, inservice programs and competency assessments, to ensure an appropriately skilled and qualified nursing mental health workforce.
  4. Proven commitment to fostering professional growth for self and others through purposeful engagement in education, mentorship and capability-building initiatives, that strengthen workforce competence.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement and the maintenance of a learning environment that values and encourages learning and reflective practice.
  6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, feedback and conflict resolution.
  7. Demonstrated ability to motivate, support and engage staff in the clinical setting and work professionally in a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Evidence of computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and record management systems.
