What you'll do:

We're looking for a Lead Drafter to join our Newcastle Mining team. This is an opportunity for an experienced drafting professional who enjoys combining technical delivery with leadership, mentoring and project coordination responsibilities.

You'll remain actively involved in producing high-quality design documentation while also taking ownership of drafting delivery, resource planning, estimating and bid support across a diverse portfolio of mining projects.

  • Lead drafting and design delivery across mining and resource sector projects

  • Prepare and review high-quality engineering drawings and design documentation

  • Coordinate drafting activities across multidisciplinary project teams

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to developing drafters and designers

  • Support project managers and engineering leads with planning and delivery requirements

  • Prepare drafting estimates and resource forecasts for proposals and project bids

  • Contribute to tender submissions and project execution planning

  • Drive drafting quality, consistency and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Assist with the development and implementation of drafting standards and best practices

  • Remain hands-on in project delivery while providing leadership across the drafting function

About you:

You are a technically strong drafting professional who enjoys leading by example and helping others develop while continuing to contribute directly to project delivery. You'll ideally bring:

  • Extensive experience delivering drafting and design services within mining, infrastructure, resources or heavy industry projects

  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard CAD and 3D modelling software

  • Experience coordinating drafting teams on multidisciplinary engineering projects

  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and design workflows

  • Experience preparing estimates, resource plans and bid inputs for projects and proposals

  • Ability to prioritise workloads across multiple projects and deadlines

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

  • A collaborative approach with a passion for mentoring and developing others
