The Opportunity: We are seeking a Senior Product Engineer to join our growing Product Engineering team and provide technical leadership in the development and delivery of innovative Defence and National Security capabilities. In this role, you will provide technical leadership in the design, development, integration, testing and delivery of product software and technical capability, ensuring solutions are secure, maintainable, reliable and aligned with product roadmaps and customer needs. Working closely with Product Engineering Manager, engineers and stakeholders, you will help shape technical direction, champion engineering excellence and drive the transition of innovative concepts and prototypes into deployable, sustainable products. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring others and delivering meaningful capability outcomes in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide senior technical leadership across product engineering activities, including architecture, design, development, integration, testing and product delivery. Guide technical decision making to ensure solutions balance delivery objectives with security, maintainability, reliability, usability and operational suitability. Lead product experimentation, prototyping and capability maturation activities, transitioning successful concepts into sustainable product baselines. Support the delivery of secure, high quality software and systems that meet roadmap commitments and customer requirements. Mentor and guide engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, code reviews and knowledge sharing activities. Contribute to the development of high performing engineering teams through coaching, collaboration and engineering best practices. Work within and strengthen DevSecOps practices, quality assurance processes, security frameworks and configuration management approaches. Identify, communicate and manage technical risks, assumptions and constraints while supporting evidence based engineering decisions. Contribute to roadmap planning, technical estimation and feasibility assessments to support effective product delivery. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering tools, automation, CI/CD pipelines, testing approaches and reusable platforms. Collaborate closely with Product Engineering Managers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical execution aligns with product priorities and organisational objectives. About You: Demonstrated experience delivering high quality software, systems or technical products within a product engineering, software engineering or systems engineering environment. Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, including version control, automated testing, CI/CD, DevSecOps, secure software development and configuration management. Proven ability to provide technical leadership and guide engineering teams through complex delivery challenges. Experience mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing and engineering excellence. Strong architectural and systems thinking capability, with the ability to assess technical trade offs and make informed engineering decisions. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to identify and manage technical risks and dependencies. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly. Ability to operate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with technical and non technical stakeholders. Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Science, ICT or Management from a recognised tertiary institution. Experience within Defence, National Security, C4ISREW environments, mission systems, or productisation of prototypes into operational capability (desirable). Why Join DEWC?
