Koonawarra Public School is a proud, vibrant school on Dharawal Country, where relationships, culture and care sit at the centre of school life. With an enrolment of 230 students, our school includes mainstream classes from Kindergarten to Year 6, a two-stream 20-place preschool operating over a five-day fortnight, and three support classes: Mild Intellectual Disability, Autism and Multi-Categorical.

Our community is warm, diverse, and full of personality. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students make up 35% of our enrolment, and 18% of students come from language backgrounds other than English. Our staff work together to make school a place where every child is known, supported, and given every opportunity to grow.

We are looking for a Teacher Librarian who understands that the library can be so much more than a room of books, serving as the hub of the school by championing literacy across the school. At Koonawarra, our library is being developed as a central part of school life, bringing together reading, creativity, technology, play, and quality teaching resources. The space will include a podcast lab, robotics centre, passive playtime area and teacher resource area to support staff to find, select and use resources that strengthen learning for our kiddos. This is an opportunity for someone with energy, creativity, and curiosity to help build a library culture that reflects the Koonawarra way.

  • Approval to teach library or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in library qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff to deliver explicit and inclusive teaching P-6, while promoting critical and creative thinking, digital literacy, curiosity, information skills, a love of literature and high levels of student engagement.

  • Capacity to develop and manage a vibrant library that integrates reading, creativity, cultural perspectives, technology, and quality teaching resources, including effective use of the Oliver Library Management System, to support students, staff, families and the broader school community.

  • Demonstrated ability to support student behaviour, engagement and wellbeing through clear expectations, positive behaviour support, trauma-informed practice and restorative practices that promote a safe, inclusive and productive learning environment.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

This is a permanent part-time position of 3 days per week, 0.6FTE (full time equivalent)

The commencement date for this position will be day 1 of the 2027 school year.

If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Teacher Library qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education which must be completed within 24 months.

Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
