EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Temporary Full Time - up to 2 years

THE POSITION:
Assist with the monitoring, operation, maintenance and optimisation AlburyCity's water and wastewater treatment plants, including pumping stations and service reservoirs in accordance with all relevant regulatory and compliance standards including NSW EPA and DPI-Water discharge license.

Its purpose is to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community by providing high quality services with customer focus and to ensure that our operations are well managed and maintained

    EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

    • Based on a 38 hour week, with hours of work in accordance with the facility roster. This roster may be altered in order to meet changing operational needs and service demands.
    • In line with the provisions of the Local Government (State) Award you will also receive the Level 1, Adverse Working Conditions Allowance.
    • This position requires enrolment in and completion of a Certificate III Water Industry Operations as part of an AlburyCity traineeship. The study component of the course will be primarily completed outside standard working hours of the position.
    • This position is for a temporary period of up to 2 years.
    • This position is a formal traineeship and is regulated by the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act 2001. Applicants with equivalent industry qualifications are ineligible to apply. For further information, please contact the Human Resources Team on 02 6023 8700
    • This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
    • This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
    • Hepatitis A
    • Hepatitis B
    • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing
    • This position is located at the AlburyCity Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants with occasional visits to external sites/depots, and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.

    ALBURYCITY TRAINEESHIP CRITERIA
    To be considered eligible for this position:

    • An applicant must not have 50% or more of the identified qualification or a similar or a higher industry qualification completed.
    • The recruitment of an AlburyCity Trainee is based on the assumption of no/limited industry skills or knowledge and is not based on age.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

    • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent
    • Provisional Licence or Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to maintain)

    DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

    • General Construction Industry White Card

    SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • General interest in water treatment and quality
    • Understanding of safe work practices
    • Fundamental literacy skills in receiving and executing instructions

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide assistance in the operation and maintenance treatment facilities as directed, including taking corrective action in response to test results and operating issues.
    • Assist with routine plant inspection and undertake maintenance activities as required to maintain operating reliability of the treatment facilities.
    • Assist with routine maintenance activities associated with the facilities' grounds and buildings.
    • Use, handle and store chemicals in accordance with relevant WH&S, and AlburyCity requirements and ensure that chemical dosing is undertaken in an efficient and effective manner to meet plant processes and effluent quality requirements.
    • Assist with the construction and commissioning of new assets.
    • Assist with sample collection, testing and analysis to monitor and manage treatment plant operations.
    • Record and update plant operational and performance data and maintain daily logs of plant operations, relevant test results, scheduled maintenance and plant performance records.
    • Use SCADA systems to monitor and control treatment processes.
    • Support operations to ensure that the treatment facilities are operated to comply with all regulatory requirements.
    • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
    • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
