The Department The MRG within the Division of Blood Cancers, Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD) is a combined translational and clinical research team focusing on the identification and characterisation of novel therapeutic agents for multiple myeloma (MM). We also attempt to develop strategies to overcome drug resistance mechanisms and initiate development and implementation of correlative laboratory studies undertaken in parallel with institutional and multi-centre clinical trials. Our group also conducts tissue banking and correlative research in patients with CLL and lymphoma The Role This position works under a general supervisor and will involve: Establish and update a database of patients with CLL or lymphoma who have consented to tissue banking Coordinate the initial and subsequent collection of specimens for these patients for tissue banking Processing of human bone marrow biopsy samples, conducting cell culture assays, assisting in in vivo experiments, DNA and RNA isolation from cell lines, primary samples, serum and plasma, cDNA synthesis and polymerase chain reaction assays, as well as assisting with the general maintenance of the laboratory which includes preparation of commonly used solutions or buffers.
