The Director of Radiochemical Separations will lead the development, optimisation and execution of radiochemical separation processes supporting the production and recycling of Th-228. The role is responsible for advancing separation technologies from laboratory-scale experimentation through process optimisation, automation and scalable manufacturing implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, optimisation and execution of radiochemical separation and purification processes for Th-228 including translation into scalable and automated processes.
  • Develop and implement gaseous Rn-220 handling and separation systems and lead the optimisation and implementation into scaled Th-228 processes.
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership in the design and execution of experiments to identify, characterise and control critical process parameters impacting isotope yield and purity and process robustness.
  • Support the development and implementation of chemical, radiochemical and radionuclide characterisation methodologies.
  • Oversee generation, analysis and trending of process development and manufacturing data to translation into routine production and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for radiochemical separation technologies transferred into routine production, providing technical oversight, troubleshooting support and continuous process improvement.
  • Integrate into the existing Th-228 Radiochemical Processing team and support routine high-activity radiochemical processing operations, including integration with existing Th-228 processing workflows.
  • Author, review and maintain SOPs, technical reports, protocols and other manufacturing documentation as required.
  • Lead, mentor and develop members of the Radiochemical Separations team as relevant, fostering a strong performance, collaborative and safety focused culture aligned with organisational values and objectives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within the Technology Development and Innovation Function and with other Functions across the company to identify opportunities for improved processes.
  • Work closely with the RSO to ensure compliance with the radiation safety program and site radioactive material license.
  • Provide technical support and radiochemical expertise to other teams or business units as required to support broader organisational objectives.
  • Participate in the day-to-day maintenance of laboratories.
  • Observe the Employer's workplace, health and safety, and regulatory policies.

Experience, Education & Qualifications

  • BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Science, or relevant field with analytical or radiochemistry experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing, mentoring and developing technical and scientific direct reports within a complex operational or R&D environment.
  • Proven ability to lead technical programs from early stage development through to scale-up, manufacturing implementation and operational integration.
  • Sound understanding of GMP, quality systems, radiation safety and regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate effectively across cross-functional stakeholder groups including Quality, Manufacturing, Safety and Engineering.
  • Strong commercial and operational awareness, with the ability to balance scientific innovation with business priorities, timelines and delivery requirements.
  • Experience managing complex technical problem-solving activities and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, high-growth environment with evolving priorities and competing demands.
  • Experience with radionuclide development and/or production preferred.
  • Experience with separations, solid-phase extraction technologies and process automation highly desirable.
  • Experience with HPGe Spectrometry, ICP-MS or similar analytical methodologies desirable.
  • Experience working with alpha, beta and gamma emitting radionuclides preferred.
