Where you'll be working
Join the Pharmacy team at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals (BMDH) and gain broad, practical experience in a busy hospital environment. You will work alongside experienced pharmacy professionals while developing the clinical, technical and professional capabilities required for registration as a pharmacist.

  • BMDH provides a supportive environment where interns are encouraged to learn, contribute and grow while making a meaningful difference to patient care.

  • Complete a structured internship program aligned with AHPRA registration requirements.

  • Gain exposure to clinical, dispensary and production pharmacy services.

  • Learn from experienced pharmacists through supervised training and practical experience.

  • Contribute to quality improvement, education and medication safety initiatives.

  • Work across Blacktown and Mount Druitt sites, with flexibility to support weekend and public holiday services when required.

What you'll be doing
As an Intern Pharmacist, you will develop your pharmacy practice under supervision while contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and timely medication services across BMDH.

  • Develop clinical and pharmaceutical care skills through supervised hospital pharmacy practice.

  • Dispense, compound and distribute medicines in accordance with training and local procedures.

  • Support the quality use of medicines through patient therapy review and medication-related projects.

  • Complete continuing professional development and an AHPRA-required quality project.

  • Collaborate with pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification: Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent degree

  • Registration: Registration with the Australian Healthcare Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an intern

Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent degree and eligible for registration with the Australian Healthcare Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an intern pharmacist with an ability to rotate across BMDH sites and participate in after hours, weekend and public holiday work as required

  2. High level of clinical pharmaceutical knowledge, and understanding of its application in therapeutic situations

  3. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and all levels of pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals

  4. Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to use initiative, in particular related to pharmacy issues and managing allocated tasks and duties

  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and independently when required, to meet team objectives

  6. Demonstrated initiative and interest in achieving positive patient health outcomes

  7. An interest in a career in hospital pharmacy, and desire to continue in hospital pharmacy post-registration

  8. Commitment to BMDH and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values
