Kids Heart Research is the research arm of the Heart Centre for Children within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN).
It is a multidisciplinary, translational research program focused on improving outcomes for children and families affected by congenital and acquired heart disease, with key themes including genetics, clinical research, bioengineering, and psychological health. The group undertakes a broad range of research activities from clinical trials and registries to neurodevelopmental and psychosocial studies, with a focus on embedding research within clinical care and delivering strong national and international collaborations.
THE ROLE:
Sitting within the clinical research stream of Kids Heart Research, this position supports the delivery and growth of the ANZ Fontan Registry and associated paediatric CHD research projects, contributing to improved long-term outcomes for children and young people with congenital heart disease. It provides end-to-end operational support across research, data, and governance activities, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to a high standard across all sites.
Core responsibilities include:
- ontributing to ongoing Registry and research projects focused on improving clinical outcomes and advancing knowledge in paediatric congenital heart disease.
- Coordinating reports, publications, grants, ethics submissions, study protocols, and regulatory documentation in line with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining high-quality data systems, monitoring study progress, and supporting participant safety and protocol adherence.
- Supporting and coordinating state registry sites, ensuring compliance with ethics and governance requirements and fostering effective collaboration.
- Contributing to governance activities, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement of research processes within the department.
Key stakeholders for this role include clinicians, researchers, state site coordinators, collaborators, and Fontan families.
This position is a network position working across both The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH).
What you'll be doing
This position requires a high level of autonomy and the ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision. The primary purpose of this role is to contribute actively to the provision of high-quality research activities at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN)

Responses to the questions below:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience in clinical research, or a combination of study and work experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, with demonstrated ability to work with sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise autonomy, initiative and problem solving in relation to the conduct of research as well as day-to-day problem solving, communication and decision making with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting primary research activities and project management including literature reviews, study design and development, preparation and management of ethics and governance applications, participant recruitment, data collection, data analysis and dissemination efforts.
- Strong computer skills and willingness to utilise existing and new systems for clinical research project management and data including electronic data capture systems and/or analysis software (e.g. SPSS, NVivo).
- Advanced project management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a highly paced environment.
- Experience and confidence working independently and as a member of different research teams, with persons of varying seniority, clinical research experience and background.
- Demonstrate a culture of quality and patient safety in clinical research.
