Principal Engineer
Are you a lead software engineer looking for the next step in your career? If the opportunity to work in a global industry leader with a diverse culture excites you, this may be the role for you.
With Audinate, you'll find your connection to the world of sound and vision.
We lead the world in AV networking media to pioneer the way people see and hear. Our products seamlessly manage hundreds of audio and video channels with one network, making us the industry standard. You'll find us in the largest companies and institutions like the Sydney Opera House, NFL Media Headquarters, Microsoft, and even a 900-year old cathedral featured in Harry Potter.
Our core values are the foundation of everything we do: Excellence, Courage, Integrity, Innovation, and Teamwork.
If this resonates with you, this is the place for you.
No matter your role, you'll feel part of our team and contribute to pioneering the future of AV so that everyone can be seen and heard.
In addition to a competitive salary, annual bonus and equity incentive plan you'll be part of our diverse, values-based culture. You'll also enjoy a range of benefits such as flexible working (3 days per week in office), home office support, and volunteering leave.
What you'll be working on
Audinate is building a new generation of products for installed AV, spanning on-site appliances and the cloud services that work with them. A new engineering group is behind it, and the first products are in development.
Installed AV means many vendors, many protocols. Our products control third-party gear, sit inside other control systems, and have to be open enough that others can build on ours. Getting the integration model right is a big part of the architecture.
We're looking for a senior engineer who can turn a roadmap into good engineering decisions. The architecture spans on-prem appliances and cloud services, and most of it is still to be made. You'll work with product managers and the tech leads on each team, often on the questions that are unclear or don't have an owner yet. The group is 20+ engineers across several teams.
You will
Lead the decisions that span appliance and cloud. What runs where, how state stays consistent, how third-party integrations run safely inside the product
Take a position on the calls that cut across teams, like build vs buy and the trade-offs with no clean answer
Work with product managers to get from goals to buildable systems, and surface the constraints that should shape the roadmap
Find and reduce the technical risk no single team owns
Improve test strategy, automation and development process
Prove out AI-assisted engineering workflows and roll out the ones that work
What we're looking for
You've designed and shipped systems where edge devices and cloud services work together reliably
Strong distributed systems fundamentals: networking, protocol design, reliability, observability
At home in the messiness of real-world integration: protocols, APIs, third-party systems
You're hands-on, proving designs in code rather than diagrams
You pick tools to fit the problem and get productive in unfamiliar ones quickly. Today that means C++, Rust, TypeScript, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis and AWS
You get real value from AI-assisted development because you've built the guardrails, workflows or tooling to deal with its limits
You've shaped architecture and engineering culture through credibility, not headcount, and you can make a vague mandate concrete
Professional AV or audio networking background is a plus, not a requirement
