The Clinical Genetics Department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a permanent 0.1FTE (4 hours per week) Staff Specialist to join their team from 1 February 2027.
Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.
Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
The position of Staff Specialist - Clinical Genetics will ensure that:
Clinical services are focused on delivering excellent clinical care to children and supporting their families.
Research and teaching is undertaken and focused on the area of Clinical Genetics.
The Centre for Clinical Genetics at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, is one of the largest genetics services in New South Wales. The department offers a comprehensive clinical genetics service with numerous subspecialist and multidisciplinary clinics. There is a strong research program and the department is a major contributor to teaching at undergraduate (University of New South Wales) and postgraduate levels.
The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient consultative services, teaching and research in clinical genetics in the Centre for Clinical Genetics and take part in service development activities. In addition to clinical service provision, the successful applicant would be expected to contribute to development of the research program and teaching activities of the department. Previous research training and successful research output are a requirement for the position, as is experience in teaching.
This is a 0.2FTE temporary joint position at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Clinical genetics, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Clinical Genetics at the role delineation of the service
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time
- Evidence of commitment to the goals of an organisation in which the applicant has worked, beyond direct patient care.
