Gap Year Engineering Cadet

Do you live in Albany or the Great Southern region? Are you in Year 12, currently taking a gap year, or planning to take a gap year in 2027 before starting university or TAFE? If you are curious about engineering but still unsure what engineers actually do, this is a practical opportunity to explore the profession before deciding on your next step.

Our Albany team is looking for a Gap Year Engineering Cadet to join our office and gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers, designers and drafters. In this paid role, you will support the delivery of a variety of engineering projects while learning more about the industry and what a future career in engineering could look like.

This is a practical opportunity to build confidence, develop workplace skills and understand how local projects are planned, designed and delivered.

We are seeking applicants for two intake periods:

  • Remainder of 2026: commencing as soon as possible and finishing in January 2027

2027 Intake: commencing in January 2027

What You'll Do

As an Engineering Cadet, you will work on projects and:

Assist with general engineering tasks related to project delivery including site inspections, preparation of cost estimates, report writing, specification preparation, QA review and contract administration.

Gain hands-on experience with CAD drafting and design techniques and develop skills in relevant computer programs.

Work under the guidance of our engineers and designers to apply design standards.

- Albany Motorsport Park Design and Construction Phase Services

- Midds Reef Construction Phase Services

- Frenchman's Peak Geotechnical Investigation and Visitor Facility Upgrade

- Albany Regional Tennis Centre Upgrade

- King Rocks Wind Farm

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

The ability to focus and pay attention to detail, to spot patterns and irregularities.

Ability to quickly grasp and apply general theories, differentiating important information from less relevant information. .

Show initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.
