About the role

The National Discipline Lead - Sustainability (NDL) is a senior leadership role responsible for establishing and driving a cohesive, high-performing sustainability discipline across the Stantec Australia Buildings business line.

This role is a strategic growth and market leadership position focused on improving work winning capability, strengthening market positioning, and transitioning the sustainability service offering toward higher-value advisory and integrated solutions.

The NDL operates at a national level, influencing across Business Centres (BCs) to translate strategy into delivery outcomes without direct line authority.

Success in this role will be demonstrated by measurable growth in sustainability-led revenue, improved win rates on major pursuits, and a clear shift toward higher-value advisory services nationally. This role can be based in any Stantec office in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive a national sustainability strategy aligned with Buildings priorities

  • Establish a clear, differentiated national value proposition

  • Lead major pursuits and elevate win rates and pipeline conversion

  • Drive diversification toward advisory, infrastructure and strategic sustainability services

  • Embed sustainability capability across all Buildings disciplines

  • Coordinate national frameworks, tools, and delivery standards

  • Enable cross-BC and cross-business line collaboration and optimise national capability

  • Identify and close capability gaps through recruitment and development

Operating Model

  • This is a National leadership role operating through influence rather than authority.

  • It is not expected that this role will have direct reports.

  • The NDL must work across business centres, discipline leads, and leadership teams

  • Contributes to the technical delivery performance and financial performance of any sustainability discipline related aspects on projects.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Work Winning & Growth: Increased pipeline, backlog, improved capture rate, growth in advisory, buildings & infrastructure revenue.

  • National Integration: Increased cross-BC and cross-business line collaboration and utilisation generally.

  • Technical Consistency: Reduction in delivery variability. Where appropriate, use the same tools, templates, formats, processes, procedures and QA methodologies.

  • Market Position: Improved visibility and reputation in sustainability

  • Capability: Delivery of national capability uplift and recruitment outcomes

To be Successful for this role you'll need:

  • 10 years experience in sustainability, engineering or advisory

  • Strong work winning and client engagement capability

  • Demonstrated leadership in complex, matrixed environments

  • Commercial acumen and outcome-driven approach
