The Role:
As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for:

  • Applying underwriting strategies across targeted industries and occupations to deliver profitable growth.
  • Assessing and underwriting new business and renewal opportunities in accordance with Pen Underwriting guidelines and delegated authorities.
  • Providing technical underwriting expertise, including risk assessment, coverage analysis, terms, conditions and pricing for new and existing accounts.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with brokers to drive new business opportunities and maximise renewal retention.
  • Collaborating with underwriters across product lines to strengthen broker relationships and identify growth opportunities.
  • Acting as a key technical referral point and mentor for underwriters across the team.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with capacity providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Developing a strong understanding of portfolio performance, market trends and emerging risks to support sound underwriting decisions.

What You’ll bring:

To succeed in this role, you'll bring a positive, proactive attitude along with:

  • A minimum of 5 years' commercial property underwriting experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of property underwriting principles, tools, processes and guidelines.
  • A strong understanding of the Australian insurance market and broker distribution channels, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Experience underwriting complex property risks and making sound underwriting decisions within delegated authority.
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail capabilities.
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
