Our Branch The Natural Environment, Water and Sustainability (NEWS) branch leads the protection and management of Brisbane's natural environment, including open spaces, waterways and parklands. The branch drives sustainability initiatives that enhance liveability, build environmental resilience and support Brisbane's transition to a clean, green and low-carbon city through partnerships, planning and community engagement. The Role support senior officers in delivering Council's low-carbon commitments and sustainability objectives contribute to projects and programs that reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions research, analyse and develop business cases for energy and carbon reduction initiatives. assist in the development of project briefs and recommendations that support corporate policy outcomes monitor legislation, policy, contracts and electricity market developments and identify opportunities to improve outcomes and reduce costs support the management and integrity of energy data and Council's Energy Information Management platform provide whole-of-Council support relating to electricity account management. build and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies, community groups and industry partners promote innovation, knowledge sharing and a strong customer-focused culture. To be successful you will have: a well-developed understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy management and broader sustainability issues experience contributing to projects through research, data analysis, business case development and problem solving the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes strong judgement and discretion when dealing with sensitive or complex matters excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills proven ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationship proficiency in computer systems, data management tools and environmental reporting platforms a commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration and performance excellence.
