Join Specialist Mental Health Services for Older People (SMHSOP) at Cumberland Hospital, North Parramatta-NSW's largest and Australia's oldest mental health facility and part of Western Sydney Local Health District. Funded through the Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI), you'll play a pivotal role in improving outcomes for people living with enduring mental illness by supporting safe, person-centred transitions from long-term inpatient care into the community. What you'll be doing
As the Neuropsychologist, you'll deliver specialist neuropsychological assessment and consultation to support evidence-based clinical decision-making, recovery planning and successful community transitions for consumers with complex mental health needs. Your expertise will directly influence care planning while driving best practice across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and prepare specialist reports to inform treatment, care planning and legal processes.

  • Partner with consumers, carers, families and multidisciplinary teams to deliver collaborative, recovery-focused care.

  • Provide expert consultation, education and clinical leadership to strengthen neuropsychological practice across the service.

  • Champion practice improvement, research and service development to enhance consumer outcomes and quality of care.

  • Build strong partnerships across inpatient, community, government and non-government organisations to support safe, least restrictive transitions.

How to Apply

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification: Masters or Doctoral degree in neuropsychology and current registration with AHPRA

  • Registration: Demonstrated full registration with AHPRA as a Clinical Psychologist, with practice endorsement for clinical neuropsychology

Selection Criteria:

  1. Extensive post-graduate experience working as a neuropsychologist with demonstrated experience in the assessment, development and delivery of successful individual and group cognitive behavioural treatments to older people, including an understanding of the principles of recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation relating to the care of older people.

  2. Demonstrated current clinical knowledge and comprehensive understanding of contemporary mental health issues affecting older people, including high level mental health interventions and services available to people with severe Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.

  3. Demonstrated high level communication and negotiation skills (written, electronic & verbal) and demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and develop and maintain effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders, including aged care services, GP's, Community Managed Organisations, inpatient and community mental health teams, consumers and carers.

  4. Demonstrated experience and leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating clinical service delivery programs, and quality improvement activities.

  5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to / conduct professional education related to mental health and provide staff clinical supervision.

  6. Ability to provide substantial consultation to other health professionals, aged care providers, GPs and service managers across Western Sydney Local Health District, providing high level clinical, service and strategic advice in mental health and aged care.

  7. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
