About the role

As the Frigate CLCM Program Engineering Manager for Babcock projects, you will provide strategic leadership and daytoday management of multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The Program Engineering Manager is also the main interface with the Frigate CLCM Principal Engineer and is responsible for the delivery of Engineering and Asset Management activities required to meet the requirements of the Frigate CLCM Contract. As a participant within the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) under the Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS), you will support the Principal Engineer in the planning, management, and delivery of their accountabilities.

You will ensure the consistent application of engineering processes, resources, and toolsets in line with Babcock policy to achieve project and program technical outcomes, while maintaining compliance with DSwMS and AEO governance requirements.

About you

You are a seasoned engineering professional with a strong background in managing complex, highstakes programs within the defence or missioncritical systems domain. Your experience has honed your ability to lead technical teams, balance competing priorities, and make informed decisions throughout the engineering lifecycle.

You're confident in your ability to communicate technical information clearly to a variety of stakeholders and thrive in a fastpaced, collaborative environment where accuracy, safety, and compliance are paramount.

Your leadership style promotes capability growth, knowledge sharing, and talent development. You're passionate about mentoring team members, driving process improvements, and building sustainable engineering practices.

With an excellent understanding of design, integration, and support techniques-and a keen awareness of emerging technologies-you're ready to deliver innovative solutions that not only meet the needs of the program, but also contribute to the broader goals of Babcock and the communities we serve.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct singledomain technical investigations and analysis to generate data that supports problem assessment, resolution, and the design of improvements.
  • Plan, deliver, and monitor your own tasks, ensuring all requirements are met to the agreed time, quality, and cost standards.
  • Apply your technical knowledge to produce highquality documentation and solutions in support of assigned tasks, in line with the applicable Delegation of Authority.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of accurate technical documentation, ensuring records are securely stored within the appropriate datamanagement systems to enable effective throughlife knowledge capture.
  • Support the Frigate CLCM Principal Engineer in meeting AEO and DSwMS accountabilities, ensuring engineering governance, compliance, and technical assurance across the program.
  • Ensure engineering processes, resources, and tools are applied consistently to achieve technical outcomes aligned with Babcock policy and defence requirements.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related technical discipline with solid understanding of applicable engineering toolsets.
  • Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
  • Extensive experience in relatable technical/engineering roles.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering functions and/or technical delivery.
  • Strong understanding of engineering toolsets (e.g., PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results.
