Create your best future as an Engineering Strategy & Delivery Transformation Lead!
What's the role?
Reporting to the Group Head of Engineering, the Engineering Strategy & Delivery Transformation Lead will play a key role in establishing and scaling Westpac's Engineering Practice, a critical capability supporting a more modern, product aligned and engineering led organisation. This is a role for someone who loves connecting strategy with execution. You'll work across Engineering, Delivery Units, practice areas and strategic partners to sharpen delivery focus, reduce ambiguity, improve operating rhythm and help engineering teams deliver better outcomes for customers, colleagues and the Group. You'll be joining at an important moment in our organisation, as Catalyst is launched and embedded, Westpac has an opportunity to reshape how engineering work is planned, delivered, measured and improved across the enterprise. This role will help make that shift real.
You'll lead and coordinate work that connects engineering strategy, delivery transformation and organisational effectiveness. Your focus will be on creating practical outcomes - not process for process' sake.
Responsibilities include:
Engineering strategy and execution
- Partner with the Group Head of Engineering to shape, evolve and execute the Engineering Practice strategy.
- Translate strategic priorities into roadmaps, delivery plans, investment cases and measurable outcomes.
- Maintain an integrated view of key engineering initiatives, dependencies, risks and outcomes.
- Prepare clear, compelling materials for executive, governance and board-level forums where required.
Delivery transformation and continuous improvement
- Lead initiatives that improve how engineering work is planned, delivered and measured.
- Support the shift to Catalyst-aligned ways of working, including clearer accountabilities, stronger delivery flow and better prioritisation.
- Identify delivery friction, execution gaps and organisational barriers - then turn insight into practical improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement in core delivery, efficiency and engineering effectiveness outcomes.
Practice portfolio and initiative delivery
- Lead execution of the Engineering Practice portfolio, ensuring priority initiatives are mobilised, governed and delivered effectively.
- Coordinate work that spans multiple divisions, Delivery Units and stakeholder groups.
- Track progress, benefits realisation and strategic outcomes using credible data and insights.
- Help the Practice leadership team sequence work, manage trade-offs and stay focused on the highest-value outcomes.
What do I need?
We're looking for a confident senior leader who can operate across strategy, delivery and transformation - someone who can simplify complexity, influence across boundaries and get meaningful work moving.
Other skills and experience required include:
- Senior leadership experience in technology, engineering, delivery transformation, strategy, business management or enterprise execution.
- Strong understanding of modern technology organisations, software delivery and product-aligned engineering operating models.
- Proven ability to lead complex change or delivery transformation across a large, matrixed organisation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive papers, decision materials and performance narratives.
- Strong commercial judgement across planning, investment, benefits realisation, resource planning and prioritisation.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders, build trust quickly and create alignment across groups with different priorities.
- Comfort working with delivery, financial, workforce and risk data to create meaningful insights and action.
- Experience working with strategic partners, vendors or external organisations to build capability and deliver practical outcomes.
