Fibre Network Designer
About the role
Fibre Network Designer is responsible and accountable for delivering high-quality fibre network technical design that support new services, network upgrades, ongoing capacity management and preventative maintenance and other strategic projects. In this role you will contribute to end-to-end route design, develop cost estimates, and ensure all work aligns with fibre network infrastructure and engineering standards, Safety in Design principles, and project requirements.
Reporting to the Team Leader, this role involves collaboration with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to ensure designs are buildable, resilient, and delivered to the required quality and timelines. Depending on your experience, you will either receive mentorship from senior team members or provide technical guidance to colleagues and support continuous improvement across processes, data quality, and design tools.
Key responsibilities include owning or contributing to complex fibre route designs, producing design documentation, supporting build delivery, monitoring network capacity and utilisation, and driving accurate commercial decision-making through high-quality design outputs. Responsible for preventative maintenance on the fibre network, analysing data, auditing, and determining best solution for mitigating risk to the network.
What you will do
- Deliver fibre network solutions and cost estimates for connection requests, and scope changes, enabling accurate quoting and informed commercial decisions. Plan and design endtoend fibre routes for new services and network changes, using internal and thirdparty assets and build constraints to produce resilient, buildable designs.
- Monitor and manage fibre network capacity and utilisation, including and the creation of upgrade or rearrangement orders, to meet demand while protecting network performance and service availability.
- Produce and maintain design deliverables and network records—, drawings, work orders/SOW and asbuilts—to ensure accurate construction, smooth handover and longterm traceability.
- Apply Safety in Design, engineering standards, and policy/contract requirements across all design work to reduce risk, meet regulatory obligations and maintain network integrity.
- Coordinate with and provide technical direction to internal teams, contractors and vendors during build and change delivery, resolving design queries and managing dependencies to achieve milestones on time and to quality standards.
- Provide operational design support for preventative maintenance under infrastructure lifecycle management, review temporary repairs, implement permanent repairs and restore any network issues.
- Identify, prioritise and support the implementation of process, system and technology improvements across planning and design to increase productivity, strengthen data quality and improve customer outcomes.
- Review and update of documentation to ensure adherence to current FAA’s, codes of practices agreements secured by carrier management, legal and property.
- Ensure to meet KPI and SLAs for this role
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned to meet business objectives and organization strategy.
