We are seeking an experienced Career Medical Officer (CMO) to join our collaborative and high-performing Intensive Care Unit at Maitland Hospital.
This is a temporary full-time appointment for two years, with the potential for conversion to a permanent role for the right candidate.
To be considered, applicants must:
Hold full, unconditional General Registration with AHPRA
possess Australian ICU experience at CMO level
have unlimited and unrestricted permanent working rights in Australia
About the Role
As a Career Medical Officer in the Intensive Care Unit, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a modern and rapidly growing critical care service.
Working alongside experienced ICU Specialists, Career Medical Officers, Registrars and Junior Medical Officers, you will provide care to a diverse range of critically ill patients while contributing to the ongoing development of the service.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced doctor seeking a stable and rewarding critical care role, with exposure to a broad case mix, strong consultant support, and opportunities to contribute to education, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality clinical care under the direction of the Director of Medical Services and ICU Consultants.
Assess, manage and coordinate the care of critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit.
Ensure continuity of care through effective patient handovers, discharge planning and completion of relevant clinical documentation, including ANZICS data collection.
Facilitate communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance activities within the ICU and across Hunter New England Health.
Support the education, supervision and mentoring of junior medical staff and contribute to a positive learning culture.
Essential Requirements
Qualified medical practitioner with full General Registration with AHPRA.
Minimum five years postgraduate medical experience.
Demonstrated Australian ICU experience at Career Medical Officer level.
Unlimited and unrestricted permanent working rights in Australia
At least two years' experience and demonstrated competence in:
o Endotracheal intubation and management of mechanically ventilated patients.
o Management of septic shock and multi-organ failure requiring vasopressor and inotropic support.
o Insertion of central venous catheters using aseptic technique.
o Monitoring and management of patients requiring Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
o Recognising deterioration and escalating appropriately to ICU Specialists.
