The Opportunity

The HSEQ Operations & Delivery Leader will operationalise the target operating model (TOM), seeking out opportunities for efficient and equitable service across the time zone. They will manage the common services (e.g. procurement, compliance training, digital systems, management systems and procedures) that support the time zone they work in. The role holder will be pivotal in integrating the HSEQ function, enabling and leading:

  • The introduction of common ways of working, driving a consistent approach to HSEQ across the time zone.
  • The enhancement of skills, upscaling areas local expertise and capabilities, and identifying areas for growth and development of capability.
  • The enhancement of customer experience, actively seek customer feedback. The role will improve the raising of HSEQ standards and quality.
  • The provision of specialist and technical HSEQ expertise. The individual will address technical and regulatory queries.

This role incorporates the following tasks and activities:

Leadership

  • Have good strategic relationships with all key stakeholders, understanding their drivers, and confidently influence, challenge and engage with them, to present, when necessary, a compelling and credible case for change.
  • Foster a culture of innovative thinking, collaboration and continual improvement.
  • Proactively create a psychologically safe and inclusive environment to ensure true collaboration and alignment, that encourages open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
  • Provide clear direction, support to motivate team members to deliver an excellent service to their customers.
  • Efficiently allocate resources and manage workloads to ensure an excellent and equitable service is delivered to customers.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
  • Identify individual's training needs and opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and career progression.
  • Deputise for the Regional HSEQ Leader.

Strategic Direction:

  • Strong understanding of the strategic direction of clients and how HSEQ strategy can enhance their plans.
  • Ability to communicate HSEQ and firm strategic plan into practical actions across all their time zone
  • Understands the importance of time-zone consistency, balances this with the need for local flexibility and adaptation
  • In depth understanding of operational risk profile/context of their time zone against growth ambitions

External Influence:

  • Invest in growing your external presence, making connections in Arup client companies and partners, attending industry events.
  • Collaborate with a professional network within and outside of Arup, investing time to learn how other organisations and professions approach HSEQ.
  • Strong recognition within industry of profile/position and how Arup, plus their own brand, influence industry outcomes.
  • Establish top 10 client list and relationships across the region to drive deeper relationships with towards influencing beyond contractual value.
  • Help develop Arup's external HSEQ offering

Deliver Excellence:

  • Business partnering: Partner with the HSEQ Business Partners and Leaders within the time zone, coaching and challenging, to cross-skill and develop, encouraging best practice and consistency. Identify areas for growth and development of capability.
  • High Quality: Promote high standards of work. Ensure team have structured, consistent and efficient approaches to deliver work on time and to a high standard with consideration for the context and stakeholders involved.
  • Consistency: Lead the consistency of service across the time zone, introduce standard ways of working and common processes. Actively eliminate unwarranted variance and inconsistency.
  • Compliance: Consolidate the compliance management for the time zone, including legal registers, compliance reviews and actions. Address any technical and regulatory queries
  • Emergency Preparedness: Lead business continuity, consolidating plans across the time zone. As subject matter expert, advise regional leaders on the preparation of emergency plans and ensure that the routine testing of emergency communication systems, such as Everbridge and International SOS is carried out.
  • Data: Promote the importance of data integrity, reliability, accuracy to the team, driving forwards ways to use data to improve our service to the business
  • Digital: Manage the administration and support of digital HSEQ systems for the time zone, collaborating closely with other regions and the global leads for Quality, Assurance and Environmental Management. Advocate continual improvement and enable team to generate solutions to solve and improve processes.
  • Training: Manage any regional-specific learning, such as regulated compliance training. This will include the regional administration of HSEQ learning i.e. expiration management.
  • Reporting: Commission, lead and review reports for your area of the business. Present insights to leadership and lead discussion on mitigating solutions
  • Customer focus: Have a strong customer focus, actively seek customer feedback across the time zone, identifying what could be enhanced and future needs.
  • Investigations: Oversee the provision of significant HSEQ investigations. Lead lessons learnt cascades
  • Subject Matter Expert: Act as an SME within audits, providing specialist knowledge and expertise as required.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrate and role model a positive, growth mindset, embrace new ways of working, willingness to learn new skills to enable flexibility in a dynamic work environment
  • Legislation: Understand the legislation complexities across region, ensure requirements are met.

Is this role right for you?

  • Degree or similar equivalent high-level qualification in an HSEQ related subject
  • Over 10 years of experience in leading or delivering HSEQ outcomes in or around high-hazard industries
  • Experience of implementing standards in high-hazard industry
  • Experience of creating procedures and implementing standards in ISO accredited organisations
  • Strong commercial acumen preferred
  • Understanding the professional services environment
  • experience in managing teams remotely is preferred
