The branch works across investigation, regulation, enforcement and education to ensure compliance with legislation while supporting positive outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors. The Role The Principal Investigator plays a critical leadership role within CARS, supporting the Compliance and Investigations Manager to lead a professional, customer-focused investigations function. The role provides leadership, mentoring and specialist advice to investigators and compliance officers, oversees complex and sensitive enforcement matters, and delivers expert guidance to stakeholders. The Principal Investigator is responsible for leading regulatory projects, strengthening compliance practices, managing organisational risk and contributing to a high-performing, values-driven culture that achieves positive outcomes for the community. To be successful you will have: strong leadership skills with a commitment to customer service and team performance. experience leading, mentoring and developing investigators or compliance staff. commitment to diversity, inclusion and building positive stakeholder relationships. experience conducting investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and preparing briefs. understanding of legislation, regulations and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply them in practice. strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex and sensitive matters.
