About the Role
You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. It is one of the nation's most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class, and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.
The role provides clinical care of high risk pregnant Aboriginal women, overseeing clinical care of Aboriginal women with normal risk pregnancies who are under the care of Wiyanga Gurung MGP, providing expertise in the care of Aboriginal women with complex psychosocial issues. Consulting on advisory panels. Meeting the CMC domains.
This is an identified position, it will ensure the cultural safety of our first nations families coming through our service and also provide a succession plan for the future. It also provides a clear career path for our Aboriginal midwives and creates opportunities for career progression.
The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC) provides expert clinical advice to women, patients, family, carers and other health care professionals within a defined specialty through the delivery of specialist consultant service which:
- Develops implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs
- Provides leadership in the ongoing development of clinical practice
- Initiates and utilises findings of research in the provision of clinical services
- Contributes to the development and delivery of specialty related education programs
- Participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service

Ideal Candidate
- Current midwifery registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
- Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- Recent clinical experience as a registered nurse or midwife dealing with clinical complexity.
- Leadership skills and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
