The role is based in the Department of Special Care Dentistry at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health, but requires flexibility and the capacity to work collaboratively across services within the facility, including a willingness to undertake clinics in other departments such as Paediatric Dentistry and Oral Restorative Sciences as required.

What you'll be doing
As an Oral Health Therapist, you'll provide high-quality, evidence-based oral healthcare to eligible patients across Western Sydney Local Health District, with a particular focus on supporting people living with disability, complex medical conditions and additional support needs. Working both independently and collaboratively, you'll help improve oral health outcomes through prevention, education and comprehensive patient care while contributing to service development and clinical excellence.

  • Deliver comprehensive oral examinations, preventative care, treatment planning and oral health education.

  • Provide compassionate care for patients across all age groups, including those with complex medical and additional support needs.

  • Collaborate with specialists and multidisciplinary teams, referring patients appropriately and supporting coordinated care.

  • Participate in oral health promotion, quality improvement initiatives, clinical research and continuous professional development.

  • Support departmental operations through administrative responsibilities, including coordination of the Pre-Anaesthetic Clinic, undergraduate student placements and service-wide collaboration as required.

Essential Requirements:

Registration: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an Oral Health Therapist or both the registrations of Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated sound clinical and diagnostic skills.

  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including the general public.

  3. A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a preventative / population health approach to patient care.

  4. A demonstrated ability to work within a large team and independently under minimal professional supervision.

  5. A demonstrated commitment to continuing education.

  6. Demonstrated oral health therapy clinical experience.
