About the role

Take your trade to the next level through Hydro Tasmania's structured training program, designed to prepare you for a career as an Operator Maintainer. You'll join the business as a qualified tradesperson and enter the program as a Trainee Power Station Operator, training to operate and maintain iconic and self-sustainable stations that power the island community.

Working and living on Island you will gain hands-on experience with industrialscale renewable energy assets while building operational and maintenance capability through Hydro's Training School. As you progress through the program and reach key milestones, you'll be signed off as an Operator Maintainer, taking on greater responsibility while supporting safe, reliable power generation.

Starting Salary $103,787 plus area allowance and plus super. In addition, you will be on an accelerated career progression.

Key responsibilities

Deliver construction, maintenance, commissioning and fault response activities across electrical plant, equipment and associated infrastructure.

Operate, maintain and monitor HV and LV electrical plant, switchyards and auxiliary systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations.

Perform switching, plant isolations and permit-to-work activities in accordance with electrical safety standards, procedures and safe work practices.

Support the planning, coordination and execution of maintenance programs, maintaining accurate records and technical documentation.

Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities while promoting a strong safety culture, driving continuous improvement and participating in a 24/7 operational roster.

Skills & experience

Qualified mechanical or electrical tradesperson (Certificate III in Mechanical Fitting or Certificate III in Electrotechnology).

Experience in an industrial or production environments.

Ability to follow operating procedures, perform switching activities and work within permit systems.

Strong faultfinding skills with the ability to identify and respond to abnormal plant conditions.

Current driver's licence, sound computer and reporting skills, and a strong safety focus

In Addition:

Electrical trades: Tasmanian Electrical Practitioners Licence, or currently licensed interstate and willing to transfer to a Tasmanian licence.
Mechanical trades: Ability to obtain a restricted electrical licence or be licensed under the Electrical Safety Management Scheme.
