Where you'll be working
The Pharmacy Department at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital (TRRH) is an experienced and supportive team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians committed to delivering exceptional patient care. In addition to providing services at TRRH, the team also delivers clinical and pharmacy support to 12 rural and regional hospitals across the New England Northwest region of NSW.

TRRH is a 300-bed rural referral teaching hospital offering a comprehensive range of services, including medical specialties such as neurology, renal, cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, oncology and rehabilitation, as well as general and specialist surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics and mental health. Critical care services include a Level 5 Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit, and one of the busiest regional Emergency Departments in NSW. A broad range of specialist outpatient clinics plus medical and radiation oncology supports patients across the region. One of the defining strengths of our pharmacy team is our collaborative culture. We step in to support one another, share knowledge and work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients-who are also our families, friends and community.

The Opportunity
As a pharmacist at TRRH, you'll rotate through a variety of clinical specialties and the dispensary throughout the year, giving you the opportunity to develop broad clinical experience in a supportive environment. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you'll review patient medications, provide expert clinical advice to medical and nursing staff, and support patients and carers in understanding and managing changes to their medicines. Regional practice offers exposure to a diverse range of patients and clinical presentations, providing plenty of opportunities to strengthen your clinical knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills while making a meaningful difference to the local community.

You'll be well supported by a network of senior pharmacists, the district Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) team and our dedicated pharmacy educator. Ongoing professional development is an integral part of our department, with access to regular in-person and virtual education sessions, in-services, grand rounds and district-wide pharmacist education programs. If you're new to hospital pharmacy, we'll support your transition into the hospital environment with structured guidance and mentoring.

This position reports to the Senior Pharmacist (depending on your rotation) and the Director of Pharmacy. Rotations include a variety of ward-based and dispensary responsibilities across general surgery, orthopaedics, general medicine, paediatrics, maternity, rehabilitation, coronary care, intensive care and mental health. Involvement in clinical trials is possible as TRRH has an active clinical trials program.

About you
We welcome applications from both early-career and experienced pharmacists who are passionate about delivering high-quality patient care. Our ideal candidate is adaptable, clinically focused and enjoys the challenge of problem solving. You have excellent attention to detail, can think critically in a fast-paced environment, and are confident working independently while recognising the value of seeking advice and collaborating with colleagues. Above all, you're committed to continuously developing your clinical knowledge and contributing positively to a supportive team culture.
While previous hospital pharmacy experience is desirable, it is not essential. We value candidates who are curious, eager to learn and motivated to expand their clinical skills.

To be successful in this role, you'll have a sound understanding of clinical pharmacy principles and the delivery of pharmaceutical services within regional or rural public health settings, or the ability to quickly develop these skills. You will also demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, sound decision-making, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing safe, patient-centred care.
