RPS, A Tetra Tech Company, is seeking Casual Field Ecologists to join our growing Environment team in Newcastle.
This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic ecologists or environmental professionals looking for flexible field-based work across a diverse range of projects throughout New South Wales.
Working alongside experienced ecologists and environmental specialists, you will assist with ecological field surveys, biodiversity assessments, environmental investigations and monitoring programs that support major infrastructure, renewable energy, water and development projects.
No two days are the same, with opportunities to work across a variety of environments and contribute to projects that help protect and manage Australia's unique natural environment.
About the role
As a Casual Field Ecologist, you will support our ecology team by:
- Undertaking flora and fauna field surveys across a range of project sites
- Assisting with biodiversity assessments and ecological investigations
- Recording accurate field observations and environmental data
- Assisting with vegetation mapping and habitat assessments
- Supporting environmental monitoring and compliance activities
- Assisting with ecological reporting and technical documentation
- Liaising professionally with project teams, contractors and clients on site
- Maintaining a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
- Contributing positively to a collaborative and high-performing team
About you
We are looking for someone who is passionate about Australia's unique environment and enjoys working outdoors. Ideally, you will have:
- A degree (or be currently studying) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Botany, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline
- Previous ecological field experience, highly regarded
- Experience undertaking flora and/or fauna surveys
- Knowledge of New South Wales flora and fauna, or a willingness to develop this knowledge
- Strong wildlife and/or plant identification skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Good organisational and time management skills
- A positive, proactive approach and willingness to learn
- A current Australian driver's licence
- Flexibility to undertake fieldwork, including early starts, overnight travel, remote locations and varying work schedules
