About the Role
This role plays a key part in shaping the future of the City of Casey's landscapes through providing specialist arboricultural and landscape planning advice to support sustainable development and high-quality design outcomes.
The role involves assessing development applications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, planning policies, and industry standards. Working collaboratively with planners, engineers, developers, and other design professionals, the Planning Arborist / Landscape Planner provides recommendations that balance development objectives with the protection and enhancement of canopy, landscape character, and the provision of the best public open space for Casey residents.
What You'll deliver
- Evaluate landscape planning referrals and provide clear, professional advice.
- Respond to enquiries and explain landscape matters to professional and nonprofessional stakeholders.
- Provide specialist advice and support to Planning Investigation Officers on compliance and enforcement matters.
- Assess and review landscape initiatives prepared by other planning authorities.
- Communicate assessment outcomes and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
What You'll Bring
- A qualification in landscape architecture, landscape design, aboriculture or related field and extensive experience in the landscape, aboriculture or horticultural field.
- Experience with reading and interpreting landscape architectural plans.
- High level of horticultural knowledge
- Experience and knowledge aspects of landscape construction
- Understanding of Australian Standard AS 4970-2025 Protection of trees on development site.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as is the ability to provide practical, evidence-based advice.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
