Why your role matters
The Senior Project Officer (Academic Support) is a key member of the Student Learning team within UNSW's Pro Vice-Chancellor Education portfolio. The role designs, delivers and evaluates targeted academic support initiatives for equity cohorts, ensuring services are student-centred, evidence-informed and aligned with best practice. It also leads project planning, evaluation, reporting, governance and stakeholder engagement to support the continuous improvement and effective integration of academic support services across the University.
The role reports to the Lead, Academic Success and Faculty Engagement and has no direct reports.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Design, implement and evaluate a targeted and responsive academic tutoring program and other relevant academic supports for equity cohorts, demonstrating a strong commitment to service excellence and student-oriented design.
- Ensure design of targeted academic support programs is aligned with best practice models, the needs of equity cohorts and institutional needs.
- Coordinate the operational administration of academic tutoring and other support programs, including scheduling, tutor communications, attendance tracking, timesheet processes, student enquiries and maintenance of accurate program records.
- Develop frameworks and mixed-methods tools to robustly evaluate targeted academic support initiatives, deliver evaluation reports and support the continuous improvement of services.
About You:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality, student-centred academic support services, with a strong service orientation and proven ability to plan and deliver projects across the project lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience in mixed-methods evaluation of academic support services, with a commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-informed practice.
- Demonstrated experience with and an understanding of issues facing tertiary education students of a diverse range of equity backgrounds and the key issues currently impacting accessibility to education and academic learning support and services.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder skills that enable building and maintaining positive professional relationships with staff at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise initiative and sound judgement, and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities and competing deadlines under pressure.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams and other relevant digital tools to support the development of accessible resources, project materials, templates, trackers and progress reports.
