Apply Job no: 8CTKD AARNet is seeking an experienced network architect with a strong telecommunications background to join the Network Architecture team. The role will be focused on the design and deployment of evolutions to the AARNet network and related systems, positioning AARNet as a technology leader. Travel may be required across Australia. The successful candidate will be comfortable preparing and presenting technical customer solutions, and will be an independent and self sufficient worker with the ability to think on their feet and solve problems and issues as they arise. Network Architecture, Technology and Design Work within cross-organisational teams to develop AARNet's overall network, security and technology strategies. Develop and implement detailed designs for evolutions to the AARNet network architecture. Develop and implement network automation and orchestration capabilities. Undertake and participate in security reviews and uplift. Undertake financial and cost analyses and reviews of proposed technologies and strategies to ensure the overall cost effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Develop test beds and proof of concept designs. Evaluate new technologies and advise AARNet of their relevance or benefit. Write and maintain operational documentation. Engagement/Communications Engage with network and security vendors on product & technology updates and ongoing relationship building. Engage with AARNet customers to understand their requirements. Engage with the Australian and international Research and Education Community to ensure that AARNet maintains a position globally as technical leader. Develop and present AARNet's network capabilities to a variety of audiences, and contribute to AARNet's digital communications strategy. Be an active participant in the preparation of the technical sections of major bids and funding proposals. Project Delivery Develop project plans and milestones around the deployment of network evolutions in conjunction with Project and Programme Managers. Provide procurement support for large network equipment acquisitions. Where required, act as the lead on field based deployments, particularly for new sites/networks and technologies. Produce technically and commercially accurate reports. Leadership and Mentoring Provide co-ordination and technical leadership of other engineers, technicians and contractors. Ensure the team is kept abreast of current and new technologies. Produce training material to educate other AARNet technical staff. Expertise, experience & qualifications 10+ years' experience in the IT&T industry. Previous telecommunications experience as a network engineer in carrier grade implementations of MPLS, IP, Ethernet, DWDM and DataCentre Networking. Previous experience in designing, securing and deploying large campus or national scale optical and routed networks is highly desirable. Experience with Unix/Linux based systems is highly desirable. Experience with scripting/coding in the context of software defined networking (SDN), network management, automation and orchestration is highly desirable. Experienced and willing to work as part of a network deployment team as required. Previous experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Cumulus and Nvidia network design and support is highly desirable. Experience integrating and deploying cloud solutions is highly desirable. Experience integrating and deploying private connectivity to cloud providers is desirable. Familiarity with working in an Agile or Scrum framework is highly desirable. Experience in a similar role will be highly regarded. Strong computer skills are essential. Australian Resident. A degree in Engineering/Telecommunications or a related field or relevant industry experience. Valid Australian Driver's License.
