We're looking for a Senior Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team, reporting to the Head of Payroll. You'll be responsible for accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across both countries, while providing coaching and quality assurance support to our Payroll Officer.
What you'll do
- Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls across Australia and New Zealand, including new starters, changes, terminations, deductions, and reimbursements
- Prepare payroll journals, reconcile transactions, and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, taxation, superannuation, and payroll tax obligations
- Prepare statutory payments, reconciliations, and end-of-year reporting, and support internal and external audits
- Monitor legislative changes and recommend updates to payroll processes and controls
- Prepare payroll reports, accruals, and supporting documentation for month-end and year-end financial processes
- Support Finance with payroll accounting activities and reporting requirements
- Manage payroll enquiries and provide timely, accurate advice to employees and managers
- Provide training and support across payroll systems, including Dayforce and ConnX
- Coach and provide quality assurance support to the Payroll Officer to ensure consistent outcomes
What you'll bring
- Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll across Australia, ideally in a multi-state environment
- Experience supporting New Zealand payroll or working across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience supporting payroll compliance, reconciliations, statutory reporting, and audit requirements
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements
- Experience supporting Finance with payroll accounting and reporting activities
- Strong understanding of PAYG taxation, payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation, and leave legislation
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion and accuracy
Nice to have
- Experience using Dayforce Payroll, ConnX, or MicrOpay
- Experience within a large, complex, or multi-brand organisation
