The Sexual Health Medicine term within Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) offers junior doctors the opportunity to gain experience in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of sexually transmissible infections (STIs), HIV medicine and broader sexual health care within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. Services are delivered through NSLHD's specialist Sexual Health Service, including Clinic 16 at Royal North Shore Hospital Community Health Centre.
Working alongside Sexual Health Physicians, Nurses, Counsellors and Allied Health professionals, trainees are involved in the assessment and management of a diverse patient population. The role provides exposure to HIV care, STI management, HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), preventive health programs and specialised clinics supporting priority populations.
This term offers valuable experience in outpatient medicine, patient counselling, public health, health promotion and multidisciplinary care. Trainees develop strong communication skills while managing a broad range of presentations in a confidential, inclusive and culturally safe clinical environment.

What you'll be doing
health needs, including provision of screening and biomedical prevention strategies, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes the provision of professional advice and consultancy to outside agencies seeking information on STI/HIV infections. The Advanced Trainee's role includes participation in training program, peer education, clinical audits and research.
The Advanced Trainee is expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of, and at the discretion of the attending Sexual Health Physician.
This is a position recognised by the Australasia Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM, RACP) for training in sexual health medicine, and other Colleges (e.g RACP, RACGP, RACOG) by negotiation.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role

- Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
- Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in Sexual Health Medicine
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
To be employed by NSW Health, applicants must provide evidence of vaccination and comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive (PD2024_015). Compliance with this policy, including any amendments made from time to time, is a mandatory condition of employment.
Applicants will be required to provide acceptable evidence of their vaccination status, immunity, and any other occupational health requirements relevant to the position. Evidence must be submitted and assessed in accordance with NSW Health requirements prior to commencement.

This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance issued by Service NSW. A current and valid WWCC is a mandatory requirement for appointment to this role.
