About the Role
We are looking for a Lawyer or Senior Lawyer to join our Consumer legal team, supporting a broad portfolio across mortgages, everyday banking, credit cards and personal loans and the associated distribution channels for these products.
This role will play a key part in supporting Westpac's UNITE program, a largescale transformation program involving complex customer-facing product and process changes across the Group. You will work closely with product, operations and risk teams to deliver legally sound and practical outcomes in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
The work combines regulatory interpretation, customer outcomes and operational delivery, with a strong focus on enabling change at scale while managing legal and conduct risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to support delivery of UNITE, one of Westpac's major transformation programs, including product changes, customer migrations and communications and related initiatives.
- Review and advise on customerfacing materials, including variation notices and disclosures
- Interpret and apply relevant regulatory frameworks (including financial services, consumer credit and payments regulation) in a practical, delivery-focused context
- Identify legal and conduct risks arising from proposed approaches, and support the implementation of appropriate mitigants and controls
- Work closely with business stakeholders across product, operations, risk and compliance to enable timely and effective delivery
- Contribute to the development of guidance, processes and supporting materials to embed legally sound outcomes
What do I need?
- Admitted to practice as a solicitor in NSW
- Minimum 6 years PQE in private practice or in-house within a financial services environment
- Strong legal reasoning skills with the ability to deliver clear, practical and commercially focused advice
- Experience in consumer banking, financial services regulation, or large-scale transformation projects would be highly regarded.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-oriented environment with competing priorities
- Strong stakeholder management skills and a collaborative approach
