Payroll & People Finance Analyst
Position Overview
As our Payroll & People Finance Analyst, you'll play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll while supporting workforce reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reconciliations. Working closely with Payroll, HR and Finance, you'll help maintain the integrity of workforce data, provide valuable insights into people costs, and identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting. Your work will directly contribute to sound financial management, workforce planning and the achievement of our business objectives.
What you'll do
- Process end-to-end payroll across weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay cycles, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely delivery.
- Manage employee payroll transactions, including new starters, employment changes, terminations and statutory payments (Superannuation, PAYG, Payroll Tax and Workers Compensation).
- Prepare payroll reconciliations, journals, leave provisions, accruals and support month-end and year-end financial reporting.
- Assist with people cost budgeting, forecasting and Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) activities, including monitoring variances and preparing reports.
- Maintain accurate workforce data across HRIS, payroll and finance systems, ensuring consistency and data integrity.
- Develop and maintain workforce reports and dashboards, providing meaningful insights into people costs, headcount and organisational performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting, automation and system efficiency to enhance accuracy and productivity.
- Work collaboratively with HR, Payroll and Finance to resolve payroll and workforce data issues and support business initiatives.
Who you are
- 3-5 years' experience in Payroll, Finance, HR Analytics or a similar role.
- Sound understanding of Australian payroll legislation, compliance and payroll processing.
- Experience supporting payroll reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting or forecasting activities.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.
- Experience using HRIS, payroll and finance systems (DataPay experience is highly regarded).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and numerical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- A proactive, can-do attitude with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across Payroll, HR and Finance.
- An interest in reporting automation, process improvement and leveraging technology to improve ways of working.
