Employment with Mid North Coast LHD requires candidates to hold a valid authority to work in Australia (Aust Work Rights Visa).

What you'll be doing
The role has been developed to ensure all aspects of culture are considered alongside clinical care pathways to ensure a holistic and cultural approach to care for all people accessing the Aboriginal Specialist Wellbeing Service (ASWS).

The ASWS has been developed to provide Aboriginal people early, non-crisis driven and culturally holistic therapeutic services across the lifespan that positively contribute to social and emotional wellbeing, and broader determinants of health for individuals, families and communities.

The Elder in Residence will provide cultural guidance for clinicians and the ASWS and ensure vital community links and connections with our Aboriginal Community organisations and communities are made and upheld.

About You
Applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification as authorised under S21 of Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

You hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care and/or a relevant Certificate III health qualification aligned to your area of practice, and you demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth through completion of, or willingness to undertake, a Certificate IV in Peer Work - Mental Health. Your qualifications underpin your ability to deliver culturally appropriate, safe, and effective care within your scope of practice.

You demonstrate strong cultural proficiency and the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. You effectively prioritise and organise your workload and caseload, ensuring that care is delivered efficiently while maintaining a high standard of service for individuals experiencing mental ill health.

You communicate with confidence and sensitivity, using well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse range of individuals, families, and stakeholders. Your ability to liaise effectively supports positive outcomes and fosters trust and understanding across all interactions.

You show a clear commitment to professional development, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based practice, while actively contributing to the sharing and strengthening of cultural knowledge within the workplace. This commitment ensures that your practice remains current, culturally responsive, and aligned with best-practice standards.

You are skilled in engaging, collaborating, and building meaningful connections with Aboriginal communities, individuals, and organisations in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner. Your approach supports strong partnerships and promotes culturally safe care.

You hold a current driver's licence and demonstrate flexibility and reliability in your capacity to travel as required, ensuring accessibility of services and continuity of care across different locations.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s. These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.
