Project Management Lead
Community Development Australia is seeking a Project Management Lead (PML) to help grow the commercial acumen and delivery capabilities of Project Managers (PMs) and successfully deliver projects for clients and contribute to the long-term profitability of the Business. This role can be based in any Stantec office in Australia.
The Project Management Lead will support the PMCL in management and governance of an allocated portfolio of projects which could be by client, geographically or by project manager. This will include assisting to maintain compliance with the Project Management Framework (PMF) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, regularly monitoring and reporting on the commercial, quality and risk position of all projects in their assigned area. They will work directly with PM's to achieve effective and timely solutions.
About the role
Project Management & Execution
Conduct regular project review meetings with project managers and project controls personnel to monitor project-level performance, budget, schedule, risk, and quality management in support of program or BC-level reporting and management, inclusive of the correct controls and management for the client.
Drive consistent project management practices and procedures in alignment with Stantec Project Management Framework and any specific business line practices.
Conduct monthly project management review process including PM completion of estimate to complete, estimate at completion (EAC), and revenue recognition, and approval of EACs in accordance with Stantec's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program.
Support efforts to integrate improved resource management (e.g., implement resource-loaded scheduling capabilities and practices if needed)
Support project managers and project controls support staff to ensure regular monitoring of WIP and AR for projects.
Recommend improvements to work processes, policies, and procedures at every opportunity to enhance project execution, control and monitoring at the project level, BL level.
Support the PMCL with the implementation of the ANZ internal Project Audit programme with Project Managers, participating in both the internal and external audit programmes, including ISO certification.
Coordinate and assist project managers to implement corrective actions for distressed projects, adapt and apply procedures to address unusual problem situations, and engage BC or BL leaders when needed to support this effort.
Participate in project risk review as needed, including support for project managers during BOU Risk Committee Reviews and tracking go-condition completion.
Work closely with project managers to manage any novel or "first-of-a-kind" activities or projects to implement proper risk and execution controls and to communicate regularly with PMCL / BC management on status.
Support the PMCL/BCOL/Group Managers in review and approval of proposal and project scopes, schedules, budgets; review and approve project/execution plans-ensuring plans are fit-for-purpose and BC approvals are in place.
Assist PMs in project-setup activities such as Oracle setup, intercompany agreements, and sub-contracts.
Commercial Management & Pricing
Support the PMCL/BCOL in the project-centric components of day-to-day operation of the business centre or region, including project delivery performance, go/no-go decisions, pricing strategies, risk management, change management, forecasting and budgeting, and performance reporting within your assigned area.
Ensure you have the interpretation of monthly project performance figures for your assigned portfolio to support the PMCL/BCOL in overall business unit management and the project managers to resolve project issues and improve project performance.
Assist in developing and reviewing proposal pricing to support BC objectives and individual bid pricing strategies, maintain a record of BC pricing, and support the account management and business development staff on key pursuits (e.g., evaluation of terms and conditions, commercial risk, and competitive advantage).
Health & Safety
Support project managers with implementing project-focused Health, Safety, Security and Environment practices. This provides support to the PMCL/BCOL with advocating the drive for safety for all.
Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.
People
Oversee project management staff (PM's/PC) to ensure timely, effective, and efficient performance of project management responsibilities in your assigned area.
Collaborate with business leaders to recruit, retain, mentor, coach and lead project managers and project managers in training, and project controls support staff, including development of succession plans for key positions and identifying and closing capability gaps among project management staff.
Work with the PMCL to ensure continuous training sessions for project managers and project controls staff are available; Oracle dashboard, Integrated Project Solutions (IPS), Integrated Project Management (IPM), preparing estimates to complete, change management and other critical PM activities and tools.
Assign projects in conjunction with the PMCL for pursuit efforts to appropriately qualified project managers.
Provide formal and informal feedback on individual performance of project managers and support staffs.
Support and promote integrated working, maximising the use of RNet on our projects where feasible.

Depending on the specific BC or region requirements, may pursue billable work and serve as a project manager for projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk in compliance with Stantec Project Management Framework including interfacing and communicating with clients.
Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
Role model best practice project delivery through managing allocated projects and ensuring personal utilisation targets are met.
Promote the exchange of expertise and support knowledge sharing through participation in knowledge communities both internally and externally (e.g., PMI), and other business initiatives to help benchmark project delivery and drive best practice performance.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or comparable technical, business or professional degree with a minimum of 7 year's relevant experience
Recent experience managing projects, including the development of scope, schedule and budget and the subsequent monitoring of cost and schedule.
Strong understanding of scheduling concepts and program.
PMP certification (or ability to obtain PMP within 12 months) or equivalent.
Conflict management and negotiation skills to resolve contractual disputes.
Initiative to identify and flag opportunities and risks to achieve business objectives.
Strong soft skills enabling you to work and communicate with Project Managers, as well as leveraging the influence of Business Leads, Group Leads and Team Leads to achieve good project outcomes.
