An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced payroll and medical workforce professional to join St George Hospital as the Medical Workforce Payroll Team Leader.
About You
You are motivated with demonstrated experience managing payroll or workforce administrative services within a complex and fast-paced health environment. You possess top rate analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service with the end result of getting our doctors paid correctly - first time, every time. A working knowledge of NSW Health systems (Healthroster and Stafflink) and Awards is essential to getting the job done.
You are professional and polished in your communication and can provide expert advice on employment conditions, award interpretation and workforce systems clearly to junior doctors, senior clinicians and managers. You know the non-negotiables and can stand your ground when it matters to support policy and conditions of employment for our junior medical workforce.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Medical Workforce Manager, you will lead the delivery of payroll, rostering and workforce administration services for a large and complex medical workforce. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with industrial awards and legislative requirements, and the effective management of payroll-related systems and processes. Driving both the day-to-day operational work and strategic projects through to completion is essential.
This role works closely with medical staff, clinical department managers, Finance, Human Resources, HealthShare and other key stakeholders to ensure a high-quality customer-focused service. Building productive and trusted relationships with stakeholders is key.
The Team
This role sits within the small, highly functioning Medical Workforce Unit located onsite at St George Hospital. You will have daily interactions with both the JMO Unit and MWU Recruiters and being a good team player is essential. We are all there to support each other!

Selection Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, human resources, accounting, management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience or a combination of both
- Demonstrated experience in payroll administration and team leadership within a large and complex organisation, preferably within NSW Health or a comparable public sector environment.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply industrial awards, employment conditions and payroll legislation.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet strict deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy in a complex operational environment.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate, resolve and provide advice on complex payroll matters.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and provide high-quality customer service to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience using payroll and workforce management systems (Healthroster and Stafflink), together with strong computer literacy and advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, risk management, compliance and quality service delivery.
