Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Post Graduate Fellow to join our Public Health Unit



We are looking for a Post Graduate Fellow in Public Health! The primary purpose of the role of Postgraduate Fellow in the SLHD Public Health Unit is to provide a program of additional training to develop subspecialty interests in Public Health and to further develop the core clinical skills required in this area. The Post Graduate Fellow will have completed advanced training to become a specialist medical practitioner in Public Health or have completed specialist training in another discipline relevant to the Fellowship training program.

The Post Graduate Fellow will provide high-quality services and expertise Public Health and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities within the Public Health Unit and SLHD. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment that supports education, research, and professional development.

The role of the SLHD Public Health Unit is to protect and promote the health and well-being of the population of SLHD by preventing and controlling communicable diseases, addressing environmental health threats and supporting initiatives to improve health outcomes.


The Post Graduate Fellow will contribute to public health surveillance, outbreak investigation and response, and the provision of timely, evidence-informed advice to clinicians, health services and external stakeholders. They will support health protection activities across communicable diseases, immunisation, environmental health and epidemiology, and contribute to service improvement, education and collaborative work with relevant partners across NSW Health and SLHD.

They will also support regulatory duties undertaken by the Clinical Director, provide technical medical and clinical expertise and advice to the Unit's operational teams (communicable diseases, immunisation, environmental health, and epidemiology) and participate in the Staff Specialists on-call roster (at the level of a Post Graduate Fellow).

The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), with recognised qualifications in Public Health and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award. (Note: Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship prior to, or within three months of the expected commencement date, may be considered.)

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
